Wye Sass sits high above Wye River with the ocean in view from almost every room. Inside, it’s bold and architectural, with bright, playful colour throughout. When the weather rolls in off the Southern Ocean, underfloor heating and an open wood fire keep the house warm.
The smart-home features are optional. Regular switches and remotes work throughout, so you don’t need an Apple device or Siri. The 65-inch Samsung TV has Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. If a previous guest has signed out of the house accounts, you may need to sign in with your own.
There are 30 outdoor steps from the driveway to the front door. Like most homes in Wye River, there’s no step-free access. The steps are timber frames filled with landscaping stones, so the footing can be uneven.
You can walk to the beach, the Wye Beach Hotel and the general store if you’re comfortable on steep hills, but it’s a substantial climb back to the house. If you have limited mobility or would rather skip the hill, driving is easier.
